Thornton Cleveleys Stirrup Cup -
The day dawned without the usual rain, wind or frost. A good turnout of horses,
riders and spectators enjoyed mince pies and a glass of punch.
We will be sure to
order extra mince pies for next year!! The club would like to thank Peter Gunn from
‘Trophy and Engraving Services’ for judging the 3 classes and also the management
at the River Wyre Hotel for permitting us to hold the Stirrup Cup event in their
car park.
Thornton Cleveleys Gala and Thornton Cleveleys & District Horse Club:
The connection between the above two society’s dates back to the mid 60’s when the then Gala chairman, Tom Croft, approached the horse club to hold a jumping and fancy dress show on the land which is now occupied by Thornton Cleveleys Sports Centre. The horse club ran the show and the Gala provided the trophies. The show was held the weekend before Gala Day with the reigning Queen presenting the trophies and judging the Fancy Dress. The club entered a float in the Gala parade, and one year entered a horse box complete with ponies.
Following relocation of the to Stanah due to the expansion of the Sports Centre and redevelopment of the adjoining fields, interest in fancy dress events waned, although the jumping competition still continues at the June show with the Gala Queen presenting the trophies.
Debbie Franklin was recently welcomed as the new Gala committee “chair”at the 2007 meeting accompanied by the retiring Gala Queen – Chloe Franklin, and her Prince Charming – Holly Moorhouse.

Competition at the 2007 June Show for the three Gala trophies was close.
The winners were Leah Deane riding Appollo 3rd and Sophie Gilmartin riding Misty

Stables to Salsa:
Four couples from “Scott’s yard” attended a beginners Salsa dance class when some
fool suggested that they could do a “Strictly Come Prancing” competition at the next
yard social. The event took place on the 16th March at the Ashley Conservative Club
prior to the Hot Pot Supper and Disco. The competitors were introduced by Phil “Brucie”
Clutton and Tracy “Sexy” Ramsbottom and judged by Liz, Jane, Danny and Gary “Cowell”
Bullen [least said, soonest mended].
Tony Two Step with Leggy Vanessa, Electric Ed with Vidal Sassoon Pat, Quipstep Claudio with Sunkissed Kath and Impressive Ian with Pretty Polly Jane gave an energetic, colourful, technical and musical extravaganza – much to the delight of the large audience. The event was in support of the children’s charity, DONNA’S DREAM HOUSE, and raised the magnificent sum of £733.00.
